Our Pacific Northwest Road Trip Ends [18/18]

It has taken me some time to complete this whole travel series, but now we are finally at the end of this one-month long adventure through the Pacific Northwest. After visiting so many places and sights, my mom and I returned to Seattle, where we arrived 30 days earlier. We had two days left in Seattle, and since my mom hadn't visited the city before I took her to some of the places that Selma and I have visited previously. The landscape had changed a lot in the two weeks since I left Seattle. Spring was in full bloom, and there was a lot of greenery everywhere. Our day started at the Pike Place Market and we would eventually travel through the most prominent sights. In this post I want to share some last impressions from Seattle I managed to capture, before we finally boarded the plane back home...

We booked our stay at the Ramada at SeaTac Airport. I figured it would be easier to drive out to the city for 20 minutes for sightseeing, then have to hurry to the Airport on the day of departure. I can recommend the hotel, it's clean and very close to the Airport. It's only a few minutes to the car rental return center.

My mom really liked Seattle. We had luck with the weather. It was beautiful and sunny outside. In order to take advantage of that we did the outside portion of the sightseeing first. We headed to Pike Place Market, and the gum wall, which my mom actually liked (Selma didn't when we visited, it grossed her out a bit). We made a stroll through downtown Seattle, ate Clam Chowder, shopped a little bit, and I made sure that we walked a good amount of time to cover most of the streets, buildings and squares.

We made our way back to Kerry Park. Everything was in bloom and the houses and gardens seemed even prettier then before. This time I stayed longer here and explored further. There was of course the familiar Seattle skyline in front of me, now covered in sunshine.

At the end of the main road which leads west from Kerry Park, there is another viewpoint. It looks out into the harbor and the canal. Further in the distance you can see the majestic, still snow topped mountains, and somewhere beyond them this great road trip starts for someone else. It was really quiet and relaxing here. A perfect spot for reflections on the last 30 days in the USA.

Time came to pack our bags, which were stuffed with a lot of things we had bought over that month. Luckily everything fit nicely and we didn't exceed the baggage weight limit. Our flight was on time. It took 10 hours flying to get to Germany, from where we took another 2 hour flight to Belgrade. We rested one night there, and the next morning drove 6 hours to Mostar. After a long trip, I was finally back in my bed!

This was the longest road trip I had ever taken. It was the longest time I had been away from home. But looking back at that month in the Pacific Northwest I can say for sure that I would do it all over again. Thank you all for sticking around with me on this journey. New road trips for the fall are already in the making. Until then there will be lots of new posts from my summer vacation and life in Mostar.

The End
